The 4Runner’s Active TRAC traction control steps in automatically when it senses four wheels slipping as you start to accelerate on slippery roads to help you maintain traction.

A-TRAC provides the traction benefit of locking front and rear differentials but with less weight.
- To activate, stop the 4Runner, shift the transmission gear to neutral, and the transfer case shift lever into L4.

- When A-TRAC is active and operating, the indicator light will flash to indicate the system is engaged, and you’ll feel a reduction in the accelerator’s response. That’s normal.
- The driver can switch A-TRAC track on and off as needed by the terrain.
