Cadillac working on a luxury electric car Celestiq

In its e-mobility offensive, the General Motors Group plans to play the role of innovation leader in electric cars for the Cadillac brand. According to media reports, one of the planned models is the super-luxury sedan with pure battery drive Celestiq.

The Celestiq will be a “long four-door hatchback” with a hatchback similar to that of the Audi A7, writes MotorTrend after a press presentation by Cadillac in a small group. The Escala concept car shown a few years ago (shown) gives a rough view of the look. The technical basis is the new BV3 architecture for electric cars from the parent company. The battery stowed in the vehicle floor could provide energy for one to three electric motors.

In view of the segment and the expected high price, MotorTrend assumes that the basic version of the Celestiq will drive with the largest battery from the General Motors program. The modular platform of the US group provides energy storage with capacities from 50 to 200 kWh. In the Celestiq, the technology should ensure the greatest possible range and high performance – currently estimated to be over 600 E-kilometers with a charge and 430 kW (585 hp). According to MotorTrend , 800-volt technology should allow particularly fast charging, the technology would also include the latest driver assistance systems and self-driving functionality.

Every Celestiq is built by hand, it is said. A special focus will be on the interior. The rear seats should use the proportions of the luxury car to provide plenty of space. For the best possible view of all passengers, a large glass roof is installed, which extends from the windscreen to the rear. The interior should also shine with high-quality materials.

Cadillac will put the Celestiq on sale in 2022, according to MotorTrend. The car magazine estimates the price to be at least $ 200,000 before taxes with regard to manufacturing and luxury equipment. It is not known whether and when the flagship electric car of the General Motors group should also come to Europe.
